On February 7, 2015, our Partners and Staff hosted nine local college juniors at our third annual “Leadership Day” event at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, PA.

Leadership Day is an opportunity for accounting students to learn valuable information on making the transition from accounting student to accounting professional.

Accounting students from three area colleges and universities were chosen based on their leadership skills and academic performance. Accounting faculty from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, Mount Aloysius College, and Saint Francis University were given specific criteria and made their selections from their respective accounting students.

Accounting Professor Gregory Petyak, CPA from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown was also invited as a special guest in order to observe and experience what Leadership Day means for accounting students.

Our Partners and Staff spoke about their disciplines and roles within Catanese Group and on the benefits of working for a regional, high performance accounting firm. The day also included several opportunities to network with Firm Partners and Staff as well as an interactive exerciese that highlighted the importance of group negotiation skills.

Attending students may have the opportunity to interview with the Firm for a position as a Summer Associate. As Summer Associates, students may apply for internship credits with their college or university. This process has been mutually beneficial for the Firm and the selected students. Last year’s event resulted in the hiring of a Summer Associate who was recently hired as a full-time Staff Accountant – Steven Marsh of UPJ.
